Avocado oil, cold pressed, unrefined. (Persea Americana)
Description: Cold pressed from the Avocado fruit. It has very little scent characteristic of most carrier oils and a pale yellow color. In its crude, unprocessed form it has a slightly green color, as it still contains natural chlorophyll. Avocado may go cloudy in low temperatures but will return to normal. Its consistency is slightly thicker than most carrier oils. Avocado oil will leave a sticky, waxy feel if applied topically to large areas of skin.
Valuable components: Avocado contains Vitamins A, B1, B2, D, E, lecithin, magnesium, iron, potassium and Beta carotene. It is classified as a mono unsaturated oil. It contains a lot of proteins and the following fatty acids: palmitic, stearic, oleic, linoleic, linolenic.
Usage: It is best suited for dry skin conditions in topical applications. Small amounts of Avocado Oil is typically added to other carrier oils in order to enrich protein and vitamin content. Avocado oil is one of the natural oils that are the most easily absorbed by the skin and hair and transported deep into the tissue. Its wonderful emollient and hydrating properties makes it ideal for dry, dehydrated or mature skins. Furthermore, it also helps to relieve the dryness and itching of psoriasis and eczema. T promotes healthy hair growth.
It is high in sterolins, which help to reduce age spots and help heal sun damage and scars. It is the sterolins (also called plant steroids) in the oil that help to soften the skin and which impart a superior moisturizing effect. It was found that avocado oil significantly increases the amount of collagen in the skin - which normally is under attack as we grow older.
Facial care: Apply a small amount of the oil on clean skin which you previously moisturized with a toner or hydrosol.
Body care: After bathing or showering, apply to moist skin and massage in. You can add a few drops of your favorite essential oil into the bottle for massaging.
Avocado Oil Hot Oil Treatment: Blend together 1 tablespoon of avocado oil and 1 teaspoon of olive oil and heat it slightly. Massage this oil blend into your hair and scalp. Gently massage your hair and scalp for around 15 minutes in a circular motion. This will help the oil to soak in well and will also improve blood circulation to the scalp. Then, soak a towel in hot water and squeeze out all the water. Wrap this hot towel around your head and let it stay for around 20 minutes. Then, shampoo and condition as usual.
Shelf life: Users can expect a shelf life of 6 months to 1 year with proper storage conditions (cool, out of direct sunlight). Refrigeration after opening is recommended.
