Description

This soap with a fascinating history has unique beneficial effects on human skin. Let us present to you the handmade soap from the Syrian city of Aleppo, considered to be the oldest known hard soap. It continues to be hugely popular even today due to its natural caring, healing and deeply hydrating properties.

What It Is, How It Works

Golden brown on the surface, light to dark green inside, slick to touch and a specific earthy scent – this is a fitting description of the fine soap from purely natural ingredients which has been produced by Aleppo soap makers from olive and laurel oil for almost 4,000 years.
Olive oil is famous for its caring and hydrating properties. Laurel oil can clean, heal and soothe problematic skin and helps to address various skin conditions (acne, eczema, rash). The higher the content of laurel oil, the stronger the beneficial effects.

In some cases, however, laurel oil may cause an allergic reaction. Our soap contains 5 % laurel oil and is suitable for everyone who prefers very gentle and purely natural soaps. This soap is also ideal as the first try if you suffer from skin conditions and would like to use products with a higher content of this ingredient.

Keep the soap in a dry place. If wet for a long time, a gel forms on its surface.

What to use it for

Due to its extraordinary properties, the 100 % natural Aleppo soap is suitable for everyday use and all types of skin. You can use it to clean your face, body or intimate parts. Another recommended use is hair care, as it helps to deal with hair skin conditions including dandruff (ideally in combination with a natural conditioner with an acidic pH factor).

What You May Be Wondering

How is the oldest known soap of the world actually produced?

The ingredients as well as the production procedure have remained the same throughout the centuries. The olive and laurel oil, water and sodium hydroxide are boiled in huge vats. Then, the dark green soap solution is poured on the surface of the drying chamber, where it stays until becoming thick. Finally, the mass is cut into cubes by hand and left to dry for about six to nine months while being exposed to air.

This gently foaming soap has been used in the traditional Syrian spas, the origin of which goes back to Roman times when this territory became a province of Rome. The crusaders brought the knowledge about the production of Aleppo soap to Europe, where it soon began to be exported. The Aleppo soap was an inspiration for the creation of the Marseille soap. But is only the original ingredients and manufacturing process which give the Aleppo soap its unique hydrating properties.
