Disposable plastic ear swabs make up a significant part of waste which pollutes oceans and the coastline. Though relatively small in size, the scale of their usage is huge. Why exactly are the swabs made from bamboo?

Bamboo is the fastest growing plant on Earth. In addition, it contains natural antibacterial substances so that no fertilisers or pesticides need to be used during its cultivation. The growth and processing of bamboo is more eco-friendly than paper production. Even though paper is also more suitable than plastics, its disadvantages are that is produced from wood while using chemical substances and it is not as solid as bamboo so the swabs can bend.
